Emily Smith Sports Podiatrist

EMILY SMITH

SPORTS PODIATRIST, WTA MEDICAL ADVISOR & CO-FOUNDER OF BIOMECHANICA.

Emily has had a wild podiatry career thus far. From buying her first business in 2007 and her second in 2008, to working with the worlds best athletes and building an innovative insole company, Emily has always had her sights set on making a difference on a larger scale.

As an elite hockey player suffering with compartment syndrome in her legs, she knew she wanted to help athletes prevent career ending injuries. During Uni, at a time when both shoes and orthotics were chunky, Emily worked as an EKIN for Nike at the time when Nike Frees were launched, giving her the permission to challenge the status quo, think outside the box and embrace innovation. At the same time, in her final year of University, she was living with five fashionable women and took a liking to dressing up, but found wearing heels to be the bane of her nightlife. Undeterred and excited by the challenge, Emily set out to find a solution to high heel pain - one which took five years to discover!

Since graduating in 2005, Emily has consulted with thousands of patients of all levels of sport and recreation across three highly regarded sports medicine centres in Sydney. Emily’s ability to see patterns, connect the dots and think differently has earned her appointments with the Wallabies 2011 World Cup squad, NSW Swifts Netball, Bangarra Dance Theatre, the Philippines National Women’s FIFA World Cup Football team and an extensive number of individual elite athletes and Olympians.

But travelling across the world, consulting with the worlds best 200 women’s tennis players, designing custom made shoes and teaching the best brains in the business as an integral part of the WTA’s high performance team (Medical Advisor), is an career highlight that will be hard to top for Emily.

Emily is passionate about helping individuals return to sport from injury efficiently and enjoys consulting with active people who are motivated to return from injury as a better performing athlete.

As a female who loves fashion, Emily knows the importance of being able to wear the shoes she loves, pain-free. Working closely with patients, surgeons, physicians & physiotherapists, Emily has spent over a decade researching the underlying cause of high heel pain and the perfect formula of foot support to pioneer a contemporary design of off-the-shelf orthotic to help women wear the fashion shoes they love without compromising style or space.
