What does a Sports Doctor do?

A Sports Doctor (aka Sport & Exercise Physician) is a medical doctor who is specialist trained in the diagnosis and management of sporting and musculoskeletal injuries. A sports doc often sits between the GP, allied health professionals (i.e. Physio & Podiatrist) and orthopaedic surgeon. They are highly skilled in the diagnosis of complex pain & injuries, the ordering and reviewing of diagnostic imaging (i.e. MRI, CT, ultrasound and Xray) and blood tests, the prescription and administration of injection therapy (i.e. Cortisone injection, PRP and Monovisc), exercise prescription, return to exercise programs and the collaboration of a trusted team of practitioners to provide treatment and rehabilitation.

Dr Burne works closely with our allied health team and other health professionals to ensure the most efficient resolution of pain and return to exercise.
